Positron Breaks the Broadband Barrier for its Rural Customers
CALIFORNIA, October 8, 2009 – Positron Access Solutions Inc. announced today that their Aktino products have been approved by the Rural Utilities Service (RUS), which provides programs to finance rural America's telecommunications infrastructure. The committee has determined that the Aktino product line is approved for use on telecommunication systems of rural development (RD) borrowers.
“This is a very exciting time for Positron. It gives our rural customers easy access to the Aktino product line to expand broadband services to their wireline and wireless customers,” explains Hossam Salib, VP, Product Management and Marketing.
The RUS is expected to distribute a significant amount of the Broadband Stimulus Funding for rural broadband projects. Carriers applying for Stimulus funding can utilize the Positron copper products to deliver broadband widely to a very high percentage of their customer base with significantly less capital, thus leveraging their existing copper infrastructure. This cost effective approach provides carriers with a strong business case for delivering broadband to more customers while maintaining the same budget.
Expanding Residential Broadband via the Wireline and Wireless Networks
Delivering broadband to Rural America requires DSLAM deployments near homes at very long distances from Central Offices. Offering high bandwidth services via new multimedia wireless devices also requires very high bandwidth to mobile sites. The Aktino product line from Positron delivers long reach backhaul solutions for both DSLAM and Mobile backhaul. The unique asymmetric capability of the Aktino solutions delivers 100 Mbps at 12 Kft without using repeaters. Utilizing the Aktino AK5R, the only fully managed repeater solution in the industry, Positron extends its backhaul reach to 60 Kft and beyond.
Delivering 100 Mbps downstream is precisely the kind of bandwidth needed at cell sites to satisfy bandwidth-hungry smart phones, wireless data traffic and 3G/4G technologies. The 100 Mbps is also needed to upgrade copper-fed DSLAMs and provide higher speed DSL services to residential and SMB customers.
Expanding Business Broadband Services in Rural America
Business Ethernet services are expanding beyond Metro areas to Rural America. These services have traditionally started with bandwidth levels as low as two Mbps. Recent increases in demand for bandwidth have raised the service level requirements from two Mbps to 10 or 50 Mbps. Positron’s MIMO over DMT technology provides an affordable solution for rural carriers to deliver these high bandwidth services to its business customers at very long reaches.
