The Aktino product line provides carrier-class bonded copper solutions that enable ILECs to quickly respond to customer hunger for bandwidth by leveraging in-place copper loop infrastructure. Our MIMO-on-DMT technology for the copper loop environment is superior to legacy and E.SHDSL approaches. This gives ILECs the ability to defer fiber deployment investments and increase their broadband service revenues at much lower cost.
High Performing, Cost-Effective Bonded Copper Solution for Carrier Ethernet, DSLAM Backhaul and Mobile Backhaul
With most cell sites fed by copper for backhaul, along with half of remote DSLAMs and DLCs, and only 15 percent of businesses within reach of fiber, there is a critical need for copper solutions that offer the capacity to support transport and services ranging from 5 to 100 Mbps. Aktino’s powerful, proven bonded copper solutions fill this need. Using existing copper pairs, innovative features like Asymmetric Bandwidth, and superior DSL spectral compatibility, Positron's solutions provide 100 Mbps Carrier Ethernet or up to 45 Mbps of ATM/TDM bandwidth over existing copper pairs out to carrier serving area (CSA) distances of 12 Kft/3.7Km. This enables carriers to offer the premium high-bandwidth Ethernet services that businesses are demanding, as well as boost their cell site and DSLAM backhaul capabilities.
Positron's solutions let providers leverage existing copper and with minimal investment begin delivering – within days – services that are typically available only over fiber, after months of network planning and installation. The existing fiber and copper throughout their network can be used in tandem for highly reliable, ubiquitous service across their entire footprint. This includes 10 Mbps DSL services, 10, 20 and 50+ Mbps Carrier Ethernet services, or cell site backhaul. ROI can be measured in months, rather than in years, as with fiber.
Whether asymmetric or symmetric transmission is in place, our solutions increase backhaul bandwidth many times over the bandwidth that other copper solutions, such as T1/E1 or E.SHDSL, make possible. At CSA distances, compared with T1 IMA, Positron offers 8 Mbps per copper pair to T1 IMA’s 768 kbps, a 10X advantage; compared with E.SHDSL, We offer a 7X advantage over its 1.15 Mbps per pair. With its foundation in VDSL2-based MIMO on DMT technology, performing copper bonding at the physical layer, Positron’s technology overcomes the challenges of bonding and delivers unprecedented reliability, typically meeting and exceeding fiber service level agreements.
Fiber-like Reliability
The Aktino product line is designed to dynamically compensate for individual copper pair failures. If a copper pair fails, the products automatically adjust the other copper pair margins to compensate for the loss. This allows any pair to protect all pairs in a bonded group and in many cases can result in meeting or exceeding fiber service level agreements.
