Carriers and network operators that have deployed Ethernet-based transport networks can maximize the cost, performance and operating benefits of their Ethernet network by deploying pseudowire technology at the edge to interwork with legacy TDM services. Pseudowire technology provides for an effective migration path at the edge where full conversion of TDM services and equipment is not feasible or too costly.
The AEX-50/100 are fully-featured 1U platforms that can be deployed in point-to-point applications, paired across core packet-based transport networks, or interworking over an aggregation network with the AEX-100 aggregating traffic from several AEX-50 nodes. With a broad set of service interfaces, the AEX-50/100 are ideal platforms for a broad set of applications:
- 3G/4G mobile network backhaul
- secure and scalable carrier Ethernet Transport
- multi service aggregation
- quad-play connectivity (voice, data, video and mobility)
- technology mediation among TDM, ATM and Ethernet
The AEX-50 and AEX-100 offer advanced features for efficient Ethernet service transport such as:
- Dual GbE Network interfaces for end-to-end protection and switching times < 50 msec
- Extensive support of Pseudowire capabilities including SATop, CESoPSN, ATMoPSN and PPP/HDLC
- Integrated network demarcation features
- Standards compliant synchronization/clocking for robust performance
The VUE graphic-based network management system provides full visibility and management of the AEX-50/100 nodes. Nodes can also be managed via SNMP or the CLI interface remotely or locally.
Traffic and Service management for today's services
At the edge or demarcation of the network, it is critical for an access node to include the ability to monitor, control and manage services effectively and reliably. The AEX-50 and AEX-100 include a broad set of capabilities to stand at the edge:
- Ethernet Ring Support (G.8032)
- Ethernet OAM CFM and EFM ( 802.1 ag, Y.1731, 802.3ah) for fault and performance monitoring
- Rate Limiting (64kbps increments) at ingress and egress for SLA enforcement
- Deep Packet inspection for packet filtering and VLAN management
- multi-level QoS controls
