Mobile Sites Face Growing Bandwidth Demand
Mobile backhaul traffic is growing with the increased popularity of smart phones. Analysts estimate that the current bandwidth demand for mobile sites is 30 Mbps. In the near future, this number will expand to as much as 100 Mbps downstream and 50 Mbps upstream. With 90 percent of US mobile sites being copper fed, many providers have found that their T1/E1/DSL fed infrastructures don't scale well. Many look to fiber as a quick solution to meet the growing bandwidth demand; however two problems stand in the way: fiber can't be deployed quickly and requires great financial investment.
The Bonded Copper Solution

Studies have shown that mobile backhaul traffic has grown to 50 percent or more of the total backhaul traffic. Furthermore, the data traffic can be asymmetric by a ratio as high as 10:1 (downstream/upstream traffic).
